MEDITERRANEAN GECKO

Hemidactylus turcicus

Mediterranean Geckos are native to the humid tropical and sub-tropical regions of the Mediterranean Region, Africa, and India.  They have been introduced into North America and Mexico.  They are nocturnal lizards with activity peaks at dusk and dawn.

Maximum size: 4”-5”

Lighting: Specialized reptile lights for viewing nocturnal animals would be a good choice. Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs will bring out the natural coloring of these lizards.

Temperature range: Day 75°-85°F Night 70°F

Food: Crickets and mealworms coated in calcium and vitamin powder.

Water: A shallow bowl of clean water should always be available.  Daily misting the terrarium is important to provide humidity and water droplets for drinking.

Housing/Habitat: An aquarium equipped with an under tank heating pad at one end and jungle mix substrate. Landscape to provide damp hiding places, and branches for climbing.  Daily misting the substrate under the hiding places until it is wet should keep them damp.
